The moment I learned about the mental health disparities in black and POC communities, my world turned upside down. It was a conversation with a close friend that sparked a fire in me to raise awareness and find solutions to address these barriers. As I delved deeper into the issue, I was overwhelmed by the magnitude of the problem and the urgent need for change. But with every obstacle, I found hope in the stories of resilience and strength in our communities. And now, I am embarking on a journey to make a difference. Join me as we navigate the road to improved access to culturally competent mental health services and self-care practices.A crucial aspect of addressing mental health disparities is connecting individuals to appropriate support systems and mental health professionals. This connection includes considering cultural competence, ensuring that therapists and counselors are equipped to understand and address the unique experiences and challenges faced by Black and POC clients. Corinna Dunn talks with Danielle Turner about the importance of finding a suitable therapist who can provide a relatable and positive therapeutic experience. Danielle suggests asking questions during consultations, being open-minded, and finding someone they can connect with. By providing advice and resources, they aim to make it easier for individuals within Black and POC communities to find mental health support that is tailored to their experiences and needs.Connect with Danielle:https://www.instagram.com/inneryouclinicalservicesllc/Connect with Cori:💖Instagram: instagram.com/themelaninwellnesspodcast💚Join the mailing list: The Melanin Wellness Podcast💙Wellness Clarity Call https://calendly.com/flexiblesoulwellness/15-min-holistic-nutrition-clarity💜Support the show: https://buymeacoffee.com/themelaninwellnesspodcast🌐Website: bio.site/themelaninwellnesspodcast📧Email: themelaninwellnesspodcast@gmail.com

So, let’s be honest. How many times have you said, “I’m fine,” when you really weren’t? A few? Quite often? Too many times to count? Well, you’re not alone. We have all been taught to instinctively say we're okay even though often times we are not. Whether we feel like it's just being polite or we don't want to appear vulnerable to others we often are hurting ourselves more than we are helping. In this episode, my guess Chy White and I explore the many ways that your mental health is effected by pretending we're okay when we are not. In this episode we discussed:The effect the pandemic has had on our mental healthThe negative effect pretending to be okay has on usHow positive affect aromatherapy can have on your mental wellnessConnect with Chy! https://www.instagram.com/iamchywhite/https://linktr.ee/CoachChy Thanks for listening! "You can't do this." "Who do you think you are?" Our inner critic or inner mean girl (or mean guy) can be more vicious to us than any other person on the planet. And what's worse it is often the loudest voice of all which makes us buy into the lies that the inner mean person is telling us. Listen to my guest Lizzy Cangro as she discusses how her inner mean girl caused her to develop a life threatening eating disorder and how she did the work to overcome it. Would you believe that the real reason that you aren't living your dream life is because of what YOU believe about you? Limiting beliefs are preventing you from living your ideal life!Vanja Beric is a registered counselor in Australia and she works with others to build on their self belief. It's not about confidence because we often have misguided ideas of what confidence is. Self belief is about believing in your decisions, believing in yourself that you can handle the hardship life throws at you, that you are expert in your field and you don't need to second guess your decision, to believe in your voice and trust yourself.Vanja has an amazing story of growing up in a war-torn country to how she overcame her own self limiting beliefs to become a counselor and help others. Your life will be enriched by her story and will help you to look at your own self limiting beliefs.CONNECT WITH VANJAwww.vanjaberic.comhttps://www.facebook.com/VBVC.WWhttps://www.instagram.com/vanjaberic/Thanks for listening!
